Sarojini Nagar MLA Launches Health Mission Against Lifestyle Diseases

Lucknow: Highlighting the growing threat of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and obesity, Sarojini Nagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh has launched an intensive push for fitness and public health under his "Healthy Sarojini Nagar" mission.

Alarming Statistics on Diabetes and Obesity

Citing studies showing a sharp rise in obesity and non-communicable diseases, Singh said India currently has nearly 101 million diabetics and around 136 million people in the pre-diabetic stage, making preventive healthcare a priority. The MLA emphasized that these numbers underscore the urgent need for community-wide health initiatives.

Open-Air Gyms and Sports Infrastructure

To promote an active lifestyle, Singh said more than 100 open-air gyms have been established across the Sarojini Nagar constituency, providing residents easy access to fitness facilities. An additional 92 open-air gyms have been approved by the Lucknow Development Authority and are being installed. These gyms are strategically located in parks and public spaces to encourage regular use.

Sports League and Community Engagement

The MLA said initiatives such as zonal parks, improved sports infrastructure, and the Sarojini Nagar Sports League are aimed at encouraging fitness among youth, women, senior citizens, and children. The sports league will feature competitions in various disciplines, fostering a culture of physical activity and teamwork.

Call to Action for Healthy Living

Urging people to adopt daily exercise, balanced diets, yoga, and regular health check-ups, Singh said a healthy and fit population is essential for building a developed Sarojini Nagar and combating the rising burden of lifestyle diseases. He also announced plans for health awareness camps and nutrition workshops in collaboration with local health experts.
