A team of health officials from Panipat on Sunday unearthed a racket involved in sex determination tests, running under the guise of a private clinic from a house in Karnal. The raiding party also recovered a hand-held ultrasound machine from the person apprehended at the spot.
Operation Details
The operation was carried out by the PNDT (Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques) prevention team from Panipat, led by PNDT Nodal Officer Dr. Lalit. Acting on a tip-off, Dr. Lalit laid a trap to apprehend the accused, identified as Sanjay. Preliminary investigations revealed that Sanjay had been involved in this racket for over a year.
The team prepared a decoy, posing as an expectant mother, and a deal was struck for Rs 30,000 with Sanjay. Sanjay shared his details with the decoy and instructed her to come to Karnal. Following his directions, the decoy was called to Namastey Chowk in Karnal. From there, she and her relative were taken to Sanjay's residence in Mangal Colony.
Accused Caught Red-Handed
The accused was caught red-handed, and the material was seized from the spot. The FDA team and other teams are now examining other medicines found at his premises. As of now, Sanjay appears to be a quack, and further investigations are in progress, said a senior official of the health department.
