Kanpur: A 9-year-old boy was attacked by stray dogs in a park in Barra Vishwabank D-block on Sunday, sustaining 25 wounds across his body. The incident occurred when the dogs chased the child and bit him repeatedly.
Eyewitnesses reported that nearby residents rushed to the scene, chased away the dogs, and immediately took the boy to a hospital. The victim was identified as Ansh, son of Manoj Kumar, a resident of Madaiya. Doctors confirmed that the child suffered a total of 25 wounds on his body.
Local representatives, including area corporator Arpit Yadav, arrived at the spot and alerted municipal corporation officials. Subsequently, a cattle catching squad was dispatched and, with the assistance of local residents, managed to capture the aggressive stray dogs.
Corporator Yadav stated that some residents living around Madaiya keep dogs, which often turn aggressive. He also noted that dogs are released back into the area after being taken to the animal birth control center. Yadav expressed frustration, saying, "Whenever the municipal corporation team goes to catch dogs, dog lovers oppose it and start fighting. Today, when a dog bit a child, I reached the spot. Along with helping the child, I called the municipal corporation team to the spot despite it being a Sunday and got four aggressive dogs caught."
The chief veterinary officer confirmed that a dog bit the child and that four dogs have been caught. The dogs have been sent to the Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre, where they will be sterilized. He added that a continuous drive will be conducted to catch stray dogs to prevent such incidents from recurring.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of stray dog attacks in Kanpur, raising concerns about public safety and the effectiveness of animal control measures. Local authorities have pledged to intensify efforts to address the problem.
