TGMC Raids Skin Clinics in Hyderabad, Finds Irregularities

The Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) carried out surprise inspections at several skin and hair clinics in Kondapur, uncovering multiple irregularities. These included treatments being provided without qualified specialists and concerns over unauthorised medical practices.

Key Findings from the Inspections

At Neoskin Clinic, the council found that skin and hair treatments were allegedly being offered without the presence of a qualified dermatologist and without necessary approvals from the concerned authorities. This raises serious concerns about patient safety and the quality of care provided.

At ORA Aesthetics, inspectors discovered that some skin and hair-related aesthetic procedures were being performed by dentists. This has raised questions about whether such procedures fall within their permitted scope of practice under current regulations.

Traya Hair Loss Solutions was found to be providing treatment for hair loss through online consultations without proper clinical registration and without supervision by qualified dermatologists. This practice bypasses standard medical oversight and could put patients at risk.

Action to Be Taken

Dr A Sunny Davis, chairman of the Legal and Anti-Quackery Committee of TGMC, stated: “Based on the findings, we will initiate action against the institutions under Sections 34 and 54 of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, 2019, and other applicable laws. Disciplinary action can also be taken against registered doctors found supporting unauthorised or unethical medical activities, including suspension of medical licences if necessary.”

The council said it would recommend that the Hyderabad district collector and district medical and health officer take legal action against establishments engaged in unauthorised medical practices to protect public health and patient safety.

Broader Implications

These inspections highlight ongoing concerns about the regulation of aesthetic and hair loss treatments in India. The TGMC's actions serve as a warning to clinics operating without proper oversight, and underscore the importance of ensuring that medical procedures are performed by qualified professionals in registered facilities.
