Three Government Hospitals in East Godavari to Be Upgraded for Pushkaralu 2027

In a significant move to bolster healthcare infrastructure ahead of the Godavari Pushkaralu-2027, the Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned ₹6.56 crore for upgrading three government hospitals in East Godavari district. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav approved the proposals on Wednesday, aiming to strengthen medical facilities and emergency services during the 12-day religious event.

Funds Allocated for Upgrades

The allocated funds will be utilized to upgrade the Kovvuru area hospital and the Community Health Centres (CHCs) at Nidadavole and Mandapeta. The decision follows a request from the district collector, who highlighted the need for enhanced medical facilities to manage the anticipated influx of devotees. Of the total allocation, ₹3.75 crore has been earmarked for Mandapeta CHC, which will be expanded from a 30-bed facility to a 100-bed facility. This includes the completion of an additional floor and allied infrastructure to accommodate the increased patient load.

Nidadavole CHC and Kovvuru Area Hospital

Nidadavole CHC will receive ₹1 crore for the construction of outpatient rooms, toilets, a compound wall, internal roads, and the procurement of equipment, along with strengthening of water and power systems. Meanwhile, works worth ₹88 lakh have been sanctioned for Kovvuru area hospital, covering repairs, drainage improvement, electrical upgrades, and the installation of a transformer and generator. These enhancements are expected to significantly improve the hospital's capacity to manage emergencies during the Pushkaralu.

Godavari Pushkaralu 2027

The Godavari Pushkaralu is a major Hindu pilgrimage event held once every 12 years along the Godavari River. The upcoming event is scheduled from June 26 to July 7, 2027, and is expected to draw millions of devotees from across the country. The hospital upgrades are part of the state government's broader preparations to ensure adequate medical support for the massive gathering.

Officials have confirmed that the upgrades will enhance the hospitals' ability to handle emergencies, including mass casualty incidents, and provide quality healthcare to pilgrims. The work is expected to be completed well before the start of the Pushkaralu.
