A tragic incident occurred in Noida's Rabupura area on Sunday night, where two siblings died and their mother is in critical condition after consuming dinner at home. The deceased have been identified as Divyanshi (7) and Prashant alias Prince (5), while their mother Ruhi (35) is battling for life at a hospital. Two other siblings, Divya (14) and Deepika (10), who were also hospitalized, are now out of danger.
Sequence of Events
The family had returned home on Sunday evening after Ruhi underwent surgery for a fibroid at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida on Saturday. Around 9 pm, Divya, Deepika, Divyanshi, and Prashant ate homemade pasta, while their parents Anil and Ruhi, along with two other relatives, consumed papaya, milk, and coconut water for dinner. Minutes later, Ruhi started complaining of dizziness and vomiting and was rushed to Yatharth Hospital for treatment. Hours later, around 2 am, the three daughters experienced the same symptoms and were admitted to the same hospital.
Deaths and Investigation
Divyanshi was declared dead during treatment at 3 am. Police arrived at the scene after receiving information from the hospital and launched a probe. While the family was grieving, Prashant's condition worsened at home, and he was rushed to the hospital at 10 am, but succumbed to his condition at 5:30 pm during treatment.
Doctors suspect food poisoning as the likely cause, but relatives claim that Divyanshi and Prashant had stayed with Ruhi at the hospital during her treatment, while the elder daughters remained at home. Relatives suspect the trio contracted an infection during the hospital stay, as symptoms began shortly after they returned home. However, doctors have indicated that food poisoning is more likely, though no official diagnosis has been confirmed yet.
An officer stated, “The other family members also consumed the same food, but nothing happened to them. It could be a chain of reactions. The autopsy report of the girl has not clarified the exact cause of death; hence, the viscera have been preserved.” Police are now awaiting further examination results to establish the exact cause behind the deaths and the illness of the surviving family members.
