A tragic incident in Malappuram district claimed the lives of a woman and her young son on Tuesday evening. The pair drowned while bathing in the Kadalundi river, highlighting the dangers of strong currents during this season.

The unfortunate event took place at Panampatta Kadavu on the Kadalundi river in Padinjattumuri. The victims have been identified as Sibina, aged 32, originally from Thiruvananthapuram but residing in Padinjattumuri, and her son, 10-year-old Mohammad Siyan. Reports indicate they were caught in a powerful current while bathing.

Rescue Attempt and Fatal Outcome

Three other individuals who had also entered the river met with the same accident but were fortunate to be rescued by alert locals. Sibina and Siyan, however, were swept away. Although bystanders pulled them out immediately and rushed them to a private hospital in Malappuram, medical professionals could not save their lives. The bodies have been kept at the hospital mortuary for further procedures.

In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, authorities have reiterated warnings to the public. They have urged people to exercise extreme caution when entering river ghats, noting that water flow is currently strong and unpredictable.
