A 28-year-old woman allegedly died due to medical negligence shortly after delivering a baby girl at Jawahar Lal Nehru District Hospital in Rudrapur late on Wednesday night. The incident triggered outrage among her family members, who accused the hospital administration of failing to provide timely treatment and oxygen support.
Incident Details
According to officials and family members, Saurabh Mishra, a resident of Singh Colony in Rudrapur, admitted his pregnant wife, Jyoti Pandey Mishra, to the district hospital on Wednesday evening for delivery. The family alleged that no lady doctor was present at the hospital during the night and that the delivery was conducted by nursing staff around 1:30 am. Jyoti gave birth to a baby girl.
Soon after the delivery, her condition allegedly deteriorated, and she began struggling to breathe. The family claimed that when hospital staff tried to provide oxygen support, all four oxygen cylinders in the ward were empty, and the oxygen pipeline was non-functional.
Family's Allegations
“The staff kept administering medicines, but no doctor was present. We repeatedly requested them to refer her to a higher centre, but they said no female doctor was available to process the referral,” alleged Saurabh Mishra. He further claimed that his wife died during the night, but the family was informed about her death only around 5 am. Following the incident, police personnel from the Sidcul outpost reached the hospital and gathered details from the family members.
Saurabh has submitted complaints to Pantnagar police, the chief medical officer, district magistrate, and other authorities, demanding a thorough probe and strict action against those responsible.
Hospital Response
Hospital PMS Dr. R.K. Sinha said, “An inquiry has been ordered into the matter. Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.”
