Actress Aishwariyaa Bhaskaran Opens Up About Menopause Struggle and Yoga's Healing Power
Renowned actress Aishwariyaa Bhaskaran, celebrated for her role in the Mohanlal-starrer 'Narasimham' and numerous other films across Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi cinema, has recently shared a deeply personal health journey. In a candid Tamil interview, she detailed how the menopause phase brought significant trauma into her life and how yoga ultimately became her salvation, helping her regain control over both body and mind.
The Traumatic Onset of Menopause
As reported by Asianet News, Aishwariyaa Bhaskaran disclosed that menopause began for her around the ages of 46 or 47. She described this period as profoundly distressing, stating, "The menopause phase is over now, but it was a trauma. During that time, there was unbearable heat. Even if I sat in an air-conditioned room, I would still feel hot. I would sweat a lot, especially on my back." Beyond the physical discomfort, she endured irregular periods, constant reliance on pads, and sudden, unexplained mood swings that often led to bouts of crying.
A Harrowing Episode of Intense Pain
The actress recounted a particularly severe incident while filming in Kerala, which highlighted the extreme nature of her symptoms. She revealed, "At that time, I was in Kerala for a shoot. The bed would be completely soaked in blood. The pain felt like life was leaving my body. I even felt like removing my uterus with my own hands. That was how intense the pain was." In this moment of crisis, she turned to her mother, who provided crucial advice: to persist with her yoga practice, a recommendation that would prove transformative.
Yoga as a Path to Relief and Recovery
Heeding her mother's guidance, Aishwariyaa Bhaskaran committed to a consistent yoga regimen. She shared, "I started practicing yoga. After completing 40 days of yoga, I experienced heavy bleeding." Despite this initial challenge, she continued diligently, and over time, her symptoms began to subside. She explained, "After that, my menopause phase ended. The sweating, heat, and mood swings stopped. Now, both my body and mind feel at ease. My body is under my control now. I am very thankful to Sadhguru’s yoga classes." This practice not only alleviated her physical ailments but also restored her mental well-being, marking a significant turning point in her health journey.
A Storied Career in Indian Cinema
Aishwariyaa Bhaskaran launched her acting career in 1991 with films like 'Oliyampukal' and 'Mamagaru', quickly establishing herself as a versatile performer. Over the years, she has collaborated with top stars such as Mohanlal, Mammootty, and Suresh Gopi, earning acclaim across multiple film industries. Her openness about menopause adds a new dimension to her public persona, highlighting the importance of health awareness and holistic wellness practices.
