Varanasi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) organized a cycle rally on its campus on Sunday to commemorate World Bicycle Day and advance health and environmental awareness under the 'Sunday on Cycles' and 'Swasth Bharat' initiatives.
Rally flagged off by Vice-Chancellor
BHU Vice-Chancellor Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi flagged off the rally at 6:30 am from the Mahila Mahavidyalaya intersection. Addressing the participants, the VC urged students to adopt cycling as a healthy and sustainable mode of transport that contributes to environmental conservation and community well-being.
Route and participation
The rally proceeded through the IIT intersection and the Computer Centre before culminating at the main gate of the Amphitheatre. Several senior academicians, university officials, and students took part in the programme.
The event underscored the university's commitment to fostering physical fitness, reducing pollution, and cultivating greater environmental awareness among members of the campus community.
Additionally, the rally served as a platform to encourage regular cycling habits, emphasizing its dual benefits for personal health and ecological sustainability. Participants expressed enthusiasm for integrating cycling into their daily routines, aligning with broader national goals of promoting active lifestyles and green transportation.
