Hazaribag's 'Blood Man' Nirmal Jain Achieves Century of Blood Donations

In an extraordinary display of humanitarian service, Hazaribag resident Nirmal Jain, aged 65, has successfully completed his 100th blood donation. This remarkable milestone was achieved during a camp at the government-run Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) on Wednesday, capping off a dedicated journey that has spanned more than four decades.

A Lifelong Commitment to Saving Lives

Locally celebrated as the 'blood man,' Jain has been consistently donating blood for an impressive 45 years. His unwavering commitment has not only saved countless lives but has also significantly promoted the culture of blood donation across the Jharkhand region.

According to records maintained by the SBMCH blood bank, Jain's efforts have directly and indirectly benefited over 200,000 individuals. His work has been particularly impactful for children suffering from thalassaemia, with Jain organizing numerous blood donation camps to ensure a steady and reliable supply of blood units for these vulnerable patients.

The Personal Journey Behind the Milestone

Jain shared with reporters that his inspiring journey began with a simple yet profound incident. "I witnessed a crowd gathered outside a pathology lab in Hazaribag, desperately seeking blood for a woman in urgent need," he recalled. "What struck me most was the visible hesitation among people to donate. In that moment, I decided to step forward and donate blood for the very first time."

Remarkably, Jain reports that he has never suffered from even minor illnesses related to his frequent donations and has never required medication as a result. "From early morning until late at night, I continue to receive calls requesting blood," he stated. "My efforts have consistently ensured that blood is available to those in desperate need."

Focused Support for Thalassaemia Patients

Jain's work extends far beyond personal donations. He actively travels to various locations to organize blood donation camps throughout the region. His focus remains sharply on the approximately 300 thalassaemia-affected children in Hazaribag district, who require blood transfusions between one and four times every month.

Jain has personally taken responsibility for ensuring a regular blood supply for these children, recognizing the critical nature of their ongoing medical needs. His systematic approach has brought stability and hope to families grappling with this challenging condition.

Recognition and Institutional Roles

Jain's decades of service have earned him widespread recognition from numerous authorities and organizations. He has been honored by the state governor, various ministers, members of parliament, legislators, and multiple government and non-government institutions.

His expertise and dedication have led to significant institutional roles:

  • Member of the Jharkhand AIDS Control Society's blood bank operational panel
  • President of the Voluntary Blood Donors Association
  • Active association with the Red Cross Society

An Inspiration to the Community

Dr. Anukaran Purti, Deputy Superintendent of SBMCH, praised Jain's extraordinary contributions. "Jain's work should serve as an inspiration for everyone in our community and beyond," he remarked. "His selfless dedication demonstrates how individual commitment can create substantial positive change in public health."

Nirmal Jain's century of blood donations represents more than just a numerical achievement—it symbolizes a lifetime devoted to alleviating suffering and strengthening healthcare infrastructure through voluntary service. His story continues to motivate new generations of donors while providing vital support to those most in need.
