Simple Cleaning Methods
Boiling Water
Start by boiling a kettle of water and slowly pouring it down the drain. Hot water loosens grease and soap buildup, often eliminating mild odors.
Baking Soda and Vinegar
If boiling water isn't enough, pour half a cup of baking soda into the drain, followed by half a cup of white vinegar. The fizzing reaction breaks down organic residue. Let it sit for 20 minutes, then flush with hot water. Repeat weekly for persistent smells. Avoid mixing baking soda with chemical drain cleaners, as this can cause dangerous reactions.
Clean Visible Parts
Remove the drain cover and clean it thoroughly, as hair and soap scum accumulate there. Also check the overflow hole, a small opening near the top of the basin that often harbors grime and mold. Use a thin bottle brush or old toothbrush dipped in diluted bleach to clean it.
When the Smell Persists
