Former Bengal Yoga Coach Accused of Crippling Toddler with Extreme Exercises
In a shocking incident from Howrah, a former coaching staff member of the Bengal yoga team, Kartik Patra, has been accused of forcing a three-and-a-half-year-old girl to perform difficult yoga exercises, resulting in severe injuries that have left her disabled, according to police reports.
Family Files Complaint Against Coach
The girl's mother lodged a formal complaint against Patra at the Jagatballavpur Police Station on Friday. The complaint details how the coach allegedly took a substantial amount of money from the family, promising to train the young child to become a national yoga champion.
However, instead of proper training, the rigorous and inappropriate exercises imposed by Patra led to catastrophic consequences. The child suffered severe fractures in her arms, shoulders, and spine due to the excessive physical strain.
Severe Medical Consequences and Paralysis
Police officials stated that the injuries necessitated two emergency surgeries. Tragically, the girl is currently paralysed, with her limbs remaining unresponsive to treatment. Medical experts have highlighted the extreme danger of subjecting such a young child to advanced yoga poses without proper supervision and age-appropriate modifications.
The case has raised serious questions about the regulation and oversight of coaching practices, especially involving minors in physical disciplines like yoga.
Coach Untraceable as Investigation Intensifies
Authorities have reported that Kartik Patra is currently untraceable, complicating the ongoing investigation. The police are actively searching for him to bring him to justice and understand the full extent of his actions.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the potential risks associated with unregulated coaching and the critical need for safeguarding children in sports and fitness training environments.
