Happy Streets Revives Community Spirit in Bengaluru After Two-Month Break
After a two-month hiatus, the popular community initiative Happy Streets made a vibrant return to Bengaluru, taking over the roads of Bhartiya City on Sunday. The debut edition at this township transformed the streets into a hub of joy and energy, attracting locals and residents from nearby neighborhoods who filled the area with enthusiasm and participation.
A Morning of Wellness and Fitness
The event kicked off with a serene start as Sarvebhavanthu Sukhinah Yoga led a demonstration of yoga and pranayama, setting a calm and balanced tone for the day. This peaceful beginning soon gave way to higher energy levels when Swingers Dance Inc took the stage with a dynamic Zumba workout and fitness dance session. Participants across all age groups joined in, moving rhythmically to the music and showcasing the inclusive spirit of the gathering.
Celebrating Traditional Arts and Diverse Performances
Sunday's edition prominently featured traditional art forms, with Dollu Kunitha, a Karnataka folk dance, capturing the audience's attention and uniting young and old in appreciation. The morning's highlight was a series of vibrant dance performances by groups like Thaalalaya Dance Academy, Divine Souls Dance Studio, and Stylish Chinna's Dance Studio, which displayed moves across various genres, from classical to contemporary, keeping the crowd engaged and excited.
Engaging Activities for All Ages
For children, the event offered a range of engaging activities designed to foster creativity and fun:
- Painting sessions that allowed kids to express their artistic talents.
- A tug of war competition that promoted teamwork and physical activity.
- Cricket with tennis balls, providing a safe and enjoyable sporting experience.
These activities ensured that young attendees were thoroughly entertained, with many reluctant to leave when the event concluded.
Community Voices and Positive Feedback
Residents shared their experiences, highlighting the event's impact on community bonding and family enjoyment. Kaushal Kakkar from Bhartiya City noted, "I was pretty happy with the event here as it showed traditional teaching ways. Kids were excited with postcard events and snakes and ladders, and mine didn't want to go home." Diganta Bhattacharya from Horamavu added, "This event is amazing; my daughter loves attending. She enjoyed the tattoo counter and these open spaces a lot." Shashi Tarika, also from Bhartiya City, appreciated the inclusive atmosphere, saying, "The weather was nice, and it looked beautiful. Everyone was here, all kinds of people. Senior citizens like me can sit near the mall and spend time, and I liked the complimentary tea and cookies."
Organizational Support and Future Prospects
Happy Streets is presented by Bhima Jewellers, with creativity partners including NeeRav Arts Village, Global Art Thanisandra, and From Mug to Mic. This collaboration underscores the event's commitment to fostering community engagement through arts and wellness. The show of community spirit even surprised some joggers and walkers passing through Central Park, and it generated interest from pet parents, indicating its broad appeal.
As Bengaluru continues to embrace such initiatives, Happy Streets stands out as a testament to the power of public spaces in bringing people together, promoting health, and celebrating cultural diversity. The event's success at Bhartiya City suggests a bright future for similar community-driven activities in the city.
