Itkhori Mahotsava 2024 Set to Showcase National Talent in Chatra

Artists from across the country are gearing up to perform at the three-day Itkhori Mahotsava in Chatra, Jharkhand, later this month. The annual festival, organized by the Jharkhand government, will be held from February 19 to February 21 at the historic Bhadrakali temple complex in the Itkhori block of the district.

Administration Ramps Up Preparations for the Grand Event

Officials from the district administration have intensified their preparations to ensure a seamless experience for attendees. Chatra Deputy Commissioner Kirtishiree G recently conducted a comprehensive review meeting to assess arrangements related to security, seating, sanitation, cleanliness, and road repairs. The festival is renowned for attracting visitors not only from across India but also from various parts of the world, highlighting its cultural significance.

Diverse Cultural Evenings and Exciting Attractions Planned

According to the Deputy Commissioner, each day of the festival will feature vibrant cultural evenings with performances by Bollywood artists and cultural troupes from different states. "Folk, classical, and contemporary performances will be staged. A drone show is also planned to add a modern touch to the celebrations," she stated.

In addition to the cultural programs, the administration has organized free water adventure sports at Baksa Dam on February 19 and 20, with stringent safety measures in place. Paragliding activities will be conducted at Lakshmanpur Bhedi Farm Dam, offering thrill-seekers an exhilarating experience. A grand Ganga aarti is scheduled on the banks of the Mahane river near the Bhadrakali temple on February 21, providing a spiritual highlight to the event.

Historical and Religious Significance of Itkhori Mahotsava

The Itkhori Mahotsava, held at the Bhadrakali temple complex, serves as a major religious and cultural gathering for followers of Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism. Initially organized through private efforts in 2015, the festival was granted state festival status in 2016. Since then, it has been conducted annually with a budget of approximately Rs 1 crore, reflecting the government's commitment to promoting regional heritage.

New Additions and Traditional Performances This Year

This year's edition will introduce several new attractions to enhance the festival experience. Attendees can look forward to fashion shows, rock climbing activities, and film screenings. Cultural troupes from Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, and Odisha will present traditional dance forms, including:

  • Kathak
  • Kalaripayattu
  • Theyyam
  • Yakshagana
  • Gotipua
  • Odissi

Furthermore, folk dance forms native to Jharkhand, such as Chhau and Paika, will be prominently showcased, celebrating the state's rich cultural tapestry.

The Itkhori Mahotsava continues to grow in scale and popularity, offering a unique blend of spirituality, culture, and entertainment that draws diverse audiences year after year.
