World Konkani Music Mega Convention Announced with Guinness Record Attempt
Mangaluru-based Konkani cultural organization Mandd Sobhann has unveiled plans for the inaugural World Konkani Music Mega Convention, scheduled to take place from November 3 to November 15, 2024. This landmark event is being organized as a centerpiece of the organization's 40th anniversary celebrations, marking four decades of promoting and preserving Konkani culture and music.
Official Launch and Distinguished Guests
The official muhurtham (auspicious ceremony) and logo launch for the convention will be held on April 10 at Kalaangann in Shaktinagar, Mangaluru. Addressing the media on Wednesday, Mandd Sobhann president Louis J Pinto confirmed that Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
Dakshina Kannada district minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has been entrusted with the honor of launching the official logo for the mega convention. The event will also feature several distinguished guests of honor, including Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas D Kamath, MLC Ivan D'Souza, and renowned Goan artiste Michael Gracias.
Guinness World Record Attempt: A Tribute to Eric Ozario
The undisputed highlight of the 12-day convention will be an ambitious attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by multiple singers. This extraordinary program is conceived as a heartfelt tribute to Eric Ozario, a revered flag-bearer of the Konkani movement, recognizing his immense and lasting contributions to Konkani music.
The record-breaking singing marathon is meticulously planned to continue for an impressive duration of 12 days, 12 hours, and 12 minutes. Officials from the Guinness World Record headquarters in London are expected to be present to officially witness and adjudicate the entire event, ensuring all guidelines are met for a successful record certification.
Massive Participation and Musical Repertoire
The convention is poised to be a grand gathering of Konkani musical talent on a global scale. Organizers anticipate the participation of more than 6,000 singers from across Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, various other Indian states, and the Konkani diaspora abroad.
During the Guinness World Record attempt, this vast ensemble of performers is expected to present a staggering repertoire of more than 5,000 distinct Konkani songs. This monumental effort aims not only to secure a world record but also to showcase the rich diversity, depth, and vibrancy of the Konkani musical tradition to a worldwide audience.
