Over 300 Dogs Showcase at Odisha's 67th-69th All India Dog Championship
Odisha Hosts 67th-69th All India Dog Show with 300+ Dogs

The city of Bhubaneswar transformed into a hub for canine excellence as the prestigious 67th, 68th, and 69th All Breeds All-India Level Championship Dog Show commenced on Friday. The grand event is being held on the sprawling campus of the Odisha Veterinary College, part of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT).

A Three-Day Spectacle of Canine Grandeur

Organised by the Orissa Kennel Club (OKC), the three-day extravaganza promises a remarkable display of pedigree and skill. The show features an impressive participation of over 300 dogs representing 30 different breeds. The event has drawn leading breeders, expert handlers, and judges with international acclaim, making it a significant date on the national canine calendar.

Among the key highlights are the dedicated German Shepherd specialty show, challenging obedience trials, and the esteemed Dr S K Ray Memorial All Breeds Show. This year's edition marked a significant digital leap, as the shows were live-streamed internationally for the first time, allowing a global audience to witness the event.

Milestones in Inclusivity and Safety

In a heartwarming and groundbreaking moment, an adopted street dog competed in the obedience trials, symbolising a major stride towards inclusivity in such premier events. This participation highlights a growing recognition of the potential and spirit of rescued animals.

Ensuring the well-being of all participants, both human and canine, was a top priority. The Orissa Kennel Club forged a crucial partnership with AIIMS Bhubaneswar. A team of doctors and dedicated NSS volunteers were stationed at the venue to provide immediate medical support. Furthermore, they conducted essential rabies awareness campaigns, promoting public health and responsible pet ownership.

Orissa Kennel Club's Legacy and Future Vision

Founded back in 1982, the Orissa Kennel Club holds the distinction of being the state's sole championship organiser affiliated with the Kennel Club of India. Its role extends beyond organising shows. The club is actively planning several community-focused initiatives to foster a better environment for dogs and their owners.

These forward-looking plans include:

  • Developing a dedicated dog park for exercise and socialization.
  • Establishing an electric crematorium for pets.
  • Promoting microchipping for identification and safety.
  • Launching K-9 citizen programmes to encourage responsible dog ownership.

The ongoing championship in Bhubaneswar is more than just a competition; it is a celebration of the human-canine bond, a platform for excellence, and a testament to progressive initiatives in animal welfare and community engagement.
