The city of Mangaluru is set to burst into a riot of colours and fragrances with a grand Fruit and Flower Show scheduled at the scenic Kadri Park. The event, organised to celebrate Republic Day, will run for four days from January 23 to January 26.
Event Details and Organisers
This horticultural extravaganza is a collaborative effort. The Department of Horticulture is leading the event in association with the Dakshina Kannada district administration, the Zilla Panchayat (ZP), the Kadri Park Development Committee, and the Siri Horticulture Association. This multi-organisational support promises a well-coordinated and spectacular display for all visitors.
A Floral and Fruity Spectacle Awaits
The main attractions will be the stunning floral replicas and intricate designs created by experts. Visitors can expect to see a breathtaking collection of approximately 15,000 flowers spanning 30 different varieties. The floral lineup includes popular species such as salvia, chrysanthemum, marigold, zinnia, dianthus, aster, vinca rosea, cockscomb, dahlia, petunia, and torenia, all grown in pots for the show.
Beyond the flowers, the event will feature a demonstration of a model vegetable garden and fascinating carvings crafted from fruits and vegetables. Enthusiasts can also explore displays of ornamental plants, meticulously maintained bonsai trees, and elegant Ikebana flower arrangements.
Additional Attractions and Practical Information
Adding sweetness to the event, various honey cooperative societies and farmer producer organisations will set up stalls. They will exhibit and sell different varieties of honey and value-added products, while also educating the public about the medicinal properties of honey.
The entry fee for the show has been set at Rs 30 for adults and Rs 20 for children. In a welcome move for educational trips, students in uniform who are accompanied by their schoolteachers will be granted free entry. Farmers wishing to participate have been asked to bring their exhibits to Kadri Park by 10:30 am on January 22, as per the instructions from the Joint Director of the Department of Horticulture.
This Republic Day event promises to be a delightful outing for families, gardening aficionados, and anyone looking to appreciate the natural beauty cultivated in the Dakshina Kannada region. It highlights the district's commitment to horticulture and provides a platform for farmers and beekeepers to showcase their produce.
