Shimla Winter Carnival 2023: Dates, New Venue & Social Focus
Shimla Winter Carnival from Dec 24-31 with new venue

The picturesque hill station of Shimla is preparing to host its much-awaited annual winter extravaganza. The Shimla Municipal Corporation is all set to roll out the third edition of the Shimla Winter Carnival, promising a week-long celebration from December 24 to 31, 2023.

A Significant Venue Change for Preservation

This year, the carnival introduces a major logistical shift aimed at heritage conservation. Shimla Mayor Surinder Chauhan announced that the main stage, traditionally erected on the historic Ridge Tank, will be relocated. The new stage will be constructed towards the Ashiana Restaurant area. This strategic move is designed to alleviate pressure on the sensitive and historic tank structure beneath the Ridge, ensuring its preservation while facilitating the festivities.

The grand inauguration of the carnival will be performed by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, marking the official start of the celebrations.

Blending Entertainment with Social Consciousness

The 2023 Shimla Winter Carnival is not just about entertainment; it carries a powerful social message. Mayor Chauhan emphasized that this year's event will place a strong emphasis on anti-drug awareness. In a commendable initiative, the carnival will specially honour warriors and activists who have been at the forefront of combating drug abuse and addiction. These individuals will be recognized for their relentless efforts in guiding the youth away from harmful substances and spreading positivity in the community.

A Vibrant Line-Up for All Ages

The carnival promises a diverse and inclusive programme for residents and tourists. The line-up includes captivating performances by famous singers, providing a platform for renowned artists. Simultaneously, it will offer valuable opportunities for local artists to showcase their talent on a prominent stage.

Beyond musical shows, the event will feature engaging street plays and dedicated children's activities. Special attractions like swings will be set up at the Ladies Park to ensure younger attendees have their share of fun. The overall vision, as promised by Mayor Surinder Chauhan, is to deliver a vibrant, engaging, and inclusive celebration that captures the spirit of Shimla during the festive winter season.
