Sri Lankan Art Exhibition Opens in Lucknow, Fostering Cultural Dialogue
The vibrant city of Lucknow witnessed a profound cultural exchange on Sunday as ASHTPRAVAH, a significant exhibition featuring eight emerging Sri Lankan artists, inaugurated at the esteemed Kala Srot Art Gallery. This artistic showcase, presenting over 30 diverse artworks, will be on display for the public until March 3, with viewing hours scheduled daily from 2 pm to 8 pm.
Curating Cross-Cultural Connections
Curated by gallery director Mansi Didwania, the exhibition is meticulously designed to foster meaningful cross-cultural dialogue through the universal language of art. "This exhibition represents a dedicated attempt to build substantial cultural bridges through artistic expression. Each participating artist contributes a unique perspective deeply rooted in Sri Lankan heritage, yet their works resonate powerfully with global contemporary practices," Didwania emphasized during the opening ceremony.
Exploring Themes Through Diverse Media
The exhibition features a rich array of artistic mediums, including:

Artist Perspectives and Cultural Narratives
Artist Rambukkanage Avinda shared insights into his creative process, explaining how his childhood experiences shaped his portrayal of Sri Lanka's social landscape. "My paintings directly reflect what I observed in my surroundings since childhood — the essence of freedom, the everyday struggles of ordinary people, the complexities of social divisions, and the depth of religious beliefs," he elaborated.
The exhibition showcases works from a talented group of artists, each bringing distinct stylistic approaches influenced by their cultural histories and present realities:
- Mahesh Chathuranga Ekanayaka
- Akalanka Herath Bandara
- Venura Dilshanka De Silva
- Avinda Tishan Fernando
Their collective presentation offers a comprehensive view of contemporary Sri Lankan art, highlighting how traditional heritage intersects with modern artistic expressions.
Significance of the Exhibition
This cultural initiative not only enriches Lucknow's artistic landscape but also serves as an important platform for international artistic exchange. By bringing Sri Lankan perspectives to Indian audiences, ASHTPRAVAH contributes to deeper mutual understanding and appreciation between the two neighboring cultures. The exhibition's timing and curation reflect a growing interest in South Asian artistic dialogues, positioning Lucknow as a hub for cross-cultural engagement.
