The Tamil Nadu government has announced plans to host a major international spiritual gathering in Chennai to celebrate the legacy of revered saint Vallalar. The Thiru Arutprakasa Vallalar International Conference 2026 will take place in January 2026, bringing together followers and scholars from around the world.
Comprehensive Conference Planning Underway
Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P K Sekarbabu made the official announcement following a detailed review meeting held at the Commissioner's office on Saturday. The minister revealed that extensive preparations are already in motion to ensure the event's success.
The conference will feature multiple components including the formation of joint committees with Sanmarga organizations, special arrangements for international delegates, and various exhibitions showcasing Vallalar's teachings. A unique herbal exhibition and Siddha medical camp will highlight the traditional healing aspects of Vallalar's philosophy.
Educational and Cultural Programs
Educational institutions will participate through literary competitions designed for school and college students. The event will also host seminars, lectures, and cultural performances that reflect Vallalar's spiritual teachings. A significant highlight includes day-long annadhanam (free food service) following Vallalar's principle of compassion and sharing.
Recognition for dedicated followers will come in the form of awards presented to outstanding Sanmarga practitioners. The conference will also see the release of a special souvenir and research volume documenting Vallalar's teachings and influence.
Women-Led Initiative and Previous Government Actions
A distinctive feature of the conference will be a women-led rally aimed at spreading Vallalar's philosophy of compassion and universal love. This initiative underscores the inclusive nature of Vallalar's teachings and their relevance to contemporary society.
Minister Sekarbabu reminded attendees that Chief Minister M K Stalin had previously declared October 5, which marks Vallalar's birthday, as "Thaniperumkarunai Day." The government has also sanctioned ₹99.90 crore for establishing the Vallalar International Centre in Vadalur, demonstrating the administration's commitment to preserving and promoting Vallalar's legacy.
The minister concluded by urging officials and organizations to work together with dedication and commitment to ensure the 2026 conference becomes a landmark event in promoting Vallalar's timeless teachings of compassion and spiritual unity.
