Tirupati Priests Launch Free Wedding Services and Low-Cost Rituals for Devotees

In a significant move to make religious ceremonies more accessible, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which oversees the renowned Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, has announced that wedding rituals will now be performed free of charge by members of the Tirumala Priests Association. This initiative, aimed at supporting devotees, was officially launched on Monday at the spacious Kalyana Vedika located on Papa Vinasanam road in Tirumala.

Affordable Religious Services for All

According to TTD Joint Executive Officer V Veerabrahmam, the Priests Association, or Purohita Sangham, will conduct a wide range of traditional rituals at prescribed nominal charges to ensure convenience for the public. While the wedding ceremonies themselves are offered without cost, families are responsible for other arrangements such as catering and floral decorations. This approach balances spiritual support with practical considerations.

The detailed fee structure for various ceremonies includes:

  • Marriage: Free of cost
  • Upanayanam: Rs 300
  • Satyanarayana Vratham: Rs 300
  • Keshakhandana: Rs 200
  • Namakaranam: Rs 200
  • Annaprasana: Rs 200
  • Aksharabhyasam: Rs 200
  • Vahana Puja: Rs 200
  • Ear piercing: Rs 50 (at Kalyana Vedika) or Rs 100 (at cottage)
  • Melam: Rs 100 for one set, Rs 300 for two sets
  • Dastra Puja: Rs 200
  • Other religious ceremonies: Rs 200

Devotees interested in utilizing these services are encouraged to contact the Priests Association directly at Kalyana Vedika in Tirumala. The ceremonies will be performed in strict accordance with scriptures, covering important rites such as marriage, Upanayanam, Satyanarayana Vratham, Namakaranam, Annaprasana, Aksharabhyasam, and Vahana Puja.

Annual Brahmotsavams Commence with Grand Ceremonies

In related news, the annual Brahmotsavams of Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy at Srinivasa Mangapuram began on Sunday with the sacred Dhwajarohanam ceremony, held between 8:15 am and 8:35 am in the Kumbha Lagnam. Conducted as per Vaikhanasa Agama traditions, this event marks the start of festivities that will continue until February 16.

TTD Executive Officer M Ravichandra highlighted that elaborate arrangements have been made to accommodate the expected influx of devotees during this period. Key events include Garuda Seva on February 12, Swarna Rathotsavam on February 13, Rathotsavam on February 15, and Chakrasnanam on February 16. Special crowd management and safety measures are in place, particularly for Garuda Seva day, to ensure a smooth experience for all attendees.

The festival has already attracted significant participation, with 81,777 devotees having darshan on Sunday alone. Many waited in 31 compartments for 15 to 18 hours, underscoring the deep spiritual devotion and the importance of these ceremonies in the region.

This initiative by TTD not only enhances accessibility to religious services but also supports the cultural and spiritual fabric of the community, making sacred rituals more affordable and inclusive for all devotees.
