Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Observes Navami Rituals with Traditional Kanya Pujan in Gorakhpur

In a significant religious observance, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath performed the sacred Kanya Pujan ceremony on Friday during the ninth day of Chaitra Navratri in Gorakhpur. The chief minister extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of the state, emphasizing the profound spiritual importance of this auspicious occasion.

Traditional Rituals Following Gorakshpeeth Customs

Adhering strictly to the Gorakshpeeth tradition, the chief minister engaged in several devotional acts:

  • Washing the feet of nine young girls who symbolically represented the nine forms of Goddess Durga
  • Offering prayers and draping the girls with ceremonial chunris
  • Performing aarti with traditional lamps
  • Serving food to the young participants
  • Presenting gifts and dakshina (monetary offerings) while seeking their blessings

The ritual took place at the temple's ann kshetra (food area), where Yogi Adityanath also performed Batuk Pujan as part of the comprehensive religious observance.

Spiritual Significance of Navami Day

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Adityanath elaborated on the spiritual dimensions of the ninth day of Navratri. "The ninth day of Navratri is an auspicious occasion that bestows all forms of spiritual attainments, ushers in happiness and prosperity, and grants overall well-being," he stated.

He continued with his message to citizens: "I extend my heartfelt greetings to the people of the state for Navratri. I offer my best wishes to the citizens, praying that the grace of the Mother Goddess may always remain upon their lives, and that their lives be filled with joy and prosperity."

Dual Celebration: Navami and Ram Navami

The chief minister highlighted that this day also commemorates the birth anniversary of Lord Ram, celebrated as Ram Navami. "Lord Ram has always served as an eternal source of inspiration for every Indian, standing as the supreme ideal of the Indian way of life within the tradition of India's Sanatan Dharm," he remarked.

Earlier in the morning, special prayers were offered to Goddess Siddhidatri at the temple's Shaktipeeth as an integral part of the Navami rituals, creating a comprehensive spiritual atmosphere throughout the temple complex.

Ram Darbar Worship and Cradle Ritual

Following the completion of Kanya Pujan, the chief minister proceeded to the Ram Darbar inside the historic Gorakhnath Temple. There, he offered prayers to the installed deities in honor of Ram Navami.

The ceremonial highlight occurred at noon when the idol of Ram Lalla, beautifully adorned and placed in a flower-decked cradle, was worshipped amid resonant Vedic chants. This ritual symbolically recreated the sacred moment of Lord Ram's divine birth.

Chief Minister Adityanath completed the worship by applying tilak, offering garlands, and gently rocking the deity's cradle in a gesture of profound reverence and devotion.

The entire event showcased the seamless integration of traditional Hindu rituals with contemporary political leadership, reinforcing the cultural and spiritual heritage of the region during this significant religious period.
