Mercedes-Benz India Launches Made-in-India Mercedes-Maybach GLS Luxury SUV
Mercedes-Benz India has officially launched the Mercedes-Maybach GLS luxury SUV in the Indian market. This premium vehicle is now assembled locally, making it more accessible to buyers. The company priced the SUV at Rs 2.75 crore (ex-showroom).
Significant Price Reduction for Indian Buyers
The local assembly brings a substantial price cut. Previously, the fully imported version cost Rs 3.17 crore. The new price represents a reduction of over Rs 40 lakh. This move aims to attract more customers by offering better value.
Alongside the standard model, Mercedes-Benz India also introduced the Maybach GLS Celebration Edition. This special edition carries a price tag of Rs 4.10 crore (ex-showroom). Both models are now available for purchase.
No Changes to Design and Features
The luxury SUV retains its iconic design. It features a large chrome-finished grille with vertical slats and prominent 'Maybach' lettering. LED projector headlamps with daytime running lights flank the grille. The bumper includes faux air intakes adorned with multiple chrome Maybach insignias.
On the sides, the SUV boasts massive 23-inch forged alloy wheels. A Maybach badge sits on the D-pillar. The rear design highlights wraparound LED tail-lamps and twin exhaust outlets.
Lavish Interior and Advanced Technology
Inside, the Maybach GLS offers Nappa leather upholstery and unique trim inserts. The cabin features twin screens for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. Rear passengers enjoy twin 11.6-inch displays for entertainment.
Other notable features include:
- Dual wireless phone chargers
- Panoramic sunroof
- Powered sunblinds
- 4-zone climate control
- 29-speaker Burmester sound system
- Automatically extending side steps
- Adaptive air suspension
- Heated and ventilated front and rear seats with memory function
- Massaging seats for both front and rear
- Samsung tablet for controlling in-car functions
- 360-degree camera
Powerful Performance Unchanged
The locally assembled GLS Maybach continues with the same powertrain. It uses a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo petrol engine paired with a 48V mild hybrid system. This engine delivers an impressive 557 horsepower and 730 Nm of torque.
A 9-speed automatic gearbox manages power distribution. The system sends power to all four wheels, ensuring robust performance on various terrains.
Benefits of Local Assembly
Mercedes-Benz India emphasized that local assembly makes the luxury SUV more accessible. It reduces waiting periods significantly. Buyers can expect quicker deliveries compared to the fully imported version.
This strategic move aligns with the company's efforts to cater to the growing demand for luxury vehicles in India. By assembling the Maybach GLS locally, Mercedes-Benz aims to strengthen its presence in the premium automotive segment.
