Woman Leaves 16-Year Marriage for Online Lover, Faces Abandonment and Seeks Reconciliation
In a poignant tale from Ahmedabad, a woman who courageously left her unhappy marriage to pursue a romantic relationship with a man she met online found herself abandoned and seeking help to mend her broken life. The woman, a resident of the city's eastern part, turned to the Abhayam helpline after realizing her lover had no intention of marrying her, despite his earlier promises.
A Troubled Marriage and the Search for Solace
Counsellors from the helpline revealed that the woman had been married for 16 years and is the mother of a 14-year-old son. Her marriage was marked by significant turmoil and distress, pushing her to seek comfort elsewhere. In her quest for emotional support, she began engaging in online chats, where she connected with a man who presented himself as a caring individual tending to his wife recovering from a brain haemorrhage.
Their digital interactions gradually evolved into a deep romantic entanglement, offering her a glimmer of hope and affection she felt was missing in her marital life. However, this secret affair was soon discovered by her husband, leading to a major confrontation that forced her to make a drastic decision.
Leaving Home and Moving to Vadodara
In the aftermath of the confrontation, the woman chose to leave her home and move into a paying guest (PG) hostel in Ahmedabad. To support herself independently, she took up a job as a teacher, demonstrating her resilience and determination to start anew. During this period, the man she had fallen for made solemn promises of marriage, convincing her to quit her job and relocate to Vadodara to be closer to him.
But after spending two months in Vadodara with no tangible progress or commitment from his side, the harsh reality dawned on her. She realized she had been misled by false assurances and returned to Ahmedabad, feeling betrayed and alone.
Seeking Help and a Path to Reconciliation
Upon her return, the man resumed his pursuit, adding to her emotional turmoil. Overwhelmed and seeking closure, the woman approached the Abhayam helpline for assistance. Counsellors noted that her primary goal was to end the tumultuous relationship and explore possibilities of reconciling with her husband, hoping to rebuild her family life.
Through the intervention of the helpline, the lover has provided assurances that he will cease all contact with her, allowing her to focus on healing and potential reconciliation. This case highlights the complexities of modern relationships and the critical role of support systems like helplines in navigating personal crises.
