On the occasion of the third Bada Mangal, residents of Lucknow found respite from the oppressive heat and humidity as bhandaras across the city served chilled beverages and food. Long queues formed at various locations where volunteers distributed refreshing drinks and meals to the public.
Relief on Sitapur Road
On Sitapur Road, large crowds gathered for a bhandara offering shikanji, rasna, froot juice, and poori-halwa. The chilled beverages provided much-needed relief from the scorching weather.
Volunteers in Indiranagar
In Indiranagar, volunteers distributed cold water and shikanji to passersby. Auto driver Ram Lakhan expressed his gratitude, saying, "It's so hot and getting something chilled to drink is a big relief." E-rickshaw driver Samad added, "It's a blessing in this heat."
Ice Cream and Kulfi in Aashiaana
In Aashiaana, a bhandara serving ice cream, kulfi, and veg pulao attracted a large crowd. Organiser Sandeep Singh Gaur noted that the demand for cold drinks was higher than for food, highlighting the intense heat.
Malpua with Panna in Alambagh
In Alambagh, people were served malpua with panna, a traditional chilled drink. Roshni Singh, a beneficiary, said she collected the chilled beverage because the heat had made her thirsty and weak. Labourers Anand, Raju, and Sajjad remarked that the drinks felt refreshing and gave them the strength needed to work in such weather.
The bhandaras not only provided physical relief but also fostered a sense of community, with people from all walks of life coming together to share in the offerings.
