CISF, Mangaluru Airport Staff Return Purse with $10k

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) along with Mangaluru International Airport personnel successfully traced and returned a purse containing USD 10,000, 500 UAE dirhams, a gold ring, an iPhone, and other valuables to a passenger who had inadvertently left it behind after arriving from Dubai.

Quick Action by Security Staff

According to airport officials, the event unfolded early Sunday morning when landside security staff member Vittal Hosamani spotted an unattended black purse on a baggage trolley at the lower ground floor parking area at approximately 6:15 am. He immediately alerted the CISF, following standard operating procedures.

The CISF's Quick Response Team swiftly secured the area, and the Security Operations Control Centre was notified. A Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, accompanied by a sniffer dog, examined the purse and confirmed the absence of any explosives.

Recovery and Verification Process

Upon opening the purse in the presence of officials, they discovered a passport, an iPhone, a gold ring, 500 UAE dirhams, USD 10,000, bank cards, and a boarding pass. A review of CCTV footage revealed that the passenger had already departed from the airport premises.

Using the boarding pass, officials contacted the airline to obtain the passenger's contact details and informed him about the recovered purse. The passenger, who had arrived from Dubai on Air India Express flight IX 814, later returned to the airport. After verifying his identity, officials handed over the purse and all its contents as per protocol.

Passenger's Gratitude

Officials said the passenger expressed his heartfelt thanks to the CISF and airport authorities through a video message, acknowledging their prompt and efficient action. This incident highlights the effectiveness of the security protocols and the dedication of the staff at Mangaluru International Airport in ensuring passenger assistance and asset recovery.
