Monsoon Tourism Gains Momentum in Kerala
Kerala is experiencing a significant uptick in monsoon tourism, driven by an influx of Arab tourists, including women-only groups from Oman. The moderate rains have created favorable conditions for travelers seeking a unique experience in the state's lush landscapes.
Arab Tourist Arrivals on the Rise
According to tourism officials, the number of visitors from Gulf countries, particularly Oman, has increased notably this monsoon season. Women-only groups from Oman have been arriving in Kerala, attracted by the state's reputation for safety, natural beauty, and cultural richness.
“We are seeing a growing trend of Arab tourists choosing Kerala for monsoon vacations. The moderate rainfall enhances the scenic beauty of our backwaters and hill stations,” said a senior official from Kerala Tourism.
Impact on Local Economy and Hospitality
The surge in tourist arrivals has boosted local businesses, including hotels, houseboats, and ayurvedic centers. Many resorts are offering monsoon-specific packages, such as rain retreats and wellness programs, to cater to the preferences of Arab travelers.
Data from the Kerala Tourism Department indicates a 15% increase in tourist footfall compared to the same period last year, with Arab nationals accounting for a significant share of this growth.
Government Initiatives to Promote Monsoon Tourism
The state government has been actively promoting monsoon tourism through targeted marketing campaigns in Gulf countries. Special arrangements, including halal food options and female-friendly amenities, have been implemented to attract Arab families and women travelers.
“The moderate rains this year have been a blessing. We are capitalizing on this to position Kerala as a year-round destination,” added the official.
