In a decisive move to protect tourists, the Shimla district administration has shut down multiple illegally operating adventure activity sites, including zip lines, during a surprise inspection drive. The crackdown targeted ventures in the popular areas of Jhamunda and Siddhpura near Narkanda.
Surprise Inspection Uncovers Safety Violations
District Tourism Development Officer (DTDO) Jagdish Sharma led the unannounced inspection to verify compliance with state safety regulations. The operation revealed that several operators were running adventure activities without the necessary legal permits and safety certifications. Acting swiftly, the authorities ordered the immediate closure of these illegal ventures.
Four operators were served official notices and instructed to dismantle and remove all unauthorized equipment from the sites within a strict deadline of seven days. Furthermore, the Kotgarh forest department has been alerted to prevent any future installation of structures or equipment on forest land without due permission.

DTDO Jagdish Sharma emphasized that the tourism department is unwavering in its commitment to tourist safety. He stated that operating without approval is a clear violation of the Himachal Pradesh Adventure Activities Rules-2017 and its 2021 amendment. The department clarified that for any adventure activity to be legal, operators must secure several mandatory requirements. These include:

- Employing adequately trained and certified staff.
