SpiceJet Flight SG-937 Stranded on Tarmac for Hours, Passengers Face Chaos in Pune

In a frustrating incident at Pune airport, numerous passengers of an early morning SpiceJet flight SG-937 to Delhi boarded the aircraft and fell asleep, only to awaken over an hour later to find themselves still grounded on the tarmac. The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 5:55 AM and arrive in Delhi by 8:30 AM, was delayed by approximately seven hours, causing significant inconvenience and chaos for travelers.

Passengers' Ordeal: From Sleep to Disappointment

Pramodkumar Sonami, a Pune resident and one of the affected flyers, recounted the ordeal to TOI. "We boarded the plane by 6:15 AM, and many of us dozed off due to the early hour. The pilot announced a 10-minute delay for a technical glitch, but when I woke up after about an hour, we were still not airborne," he said. Passengers were left in the dark, with no instructions to disembark until after 8:30 AM, the expected landing time in Delhi.

Airline Response and Technical Issues

A SpiceJet spokesperson attributed the delay to a last-minute technical problem and a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) at Pune airport. "The rectification took longer than anticipated, so all passengers were deplaned. The flight later departed and landed in Delhi. We regret the inconvenience caused," the spokesperson stated. However, this explanation did little to ease the passengers' frustration.

Chaos and Confusion at the Terminal

After disembarking, the situation escalated into utter confusion at the Pune terminal. Somani described the scene: "Airline staff hinted at a possible cancellation, leading to furious arguments among flyers. We were moved to the arrival area with no offers of water or food. Eventually, they announced a new departure time around 11:30 AM." Passengers were forced to repeat the check-in and security processes, adding to their distress.

Final Departure and Aftermath

The flight finally re-boarded around 12:30 PM, took off by 12:45 PM, and landed in Delhi at approximately 2:30 PM. This extended delay defeated the purpose of taking an early flight, leaving passengers exhausted and dissatisfied. The incident highlights ongoing challenges in airline operations and passenger handling during unforeseen disruptions.
