AKM Moinuddin Re-elected DCAB President for 2026

The Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) has ushered in its new leadership for 2026, with seasoned journalist AKM Moinuddin securing a fresh term as its president. The election, which saw a slate of journalists from prominent Bangladeshi news outlets voted into key positions, marks a significant moment for the country's press corps covering foreign affairs.

New Leadership Team Takes Charge

The election results were formally declared by a panel led by chief election commissioner Farid Hossain, the former AP Bureau Chief. He was assisted by election commissioner Elias Khan, the executive editor of the Daily Times of Bangladesh. The voting and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place on Wednesday at the Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in Dhaka.

Alongside the re-election of AKM Moinuddin, the special correspondent of United News of Bangladesh (UNB), the association elected Abeda Sultana Mukta from Desh TV as its vice president. Emrul Kayesh, a special correspondent for Bangla Vision, was chosen as the new general secretary.

Uncontested Selections for Key Roles

Several other important positions within the DCAB executive committee were filled without contest. The roles and the elected journalists are:

  • Joint Secretary: Morshed Hassib Hasan (Channel 24)
  • Treasurer: Rubaet Hasan (Deepto TV)
  • Office Secretary: Nahid Hossain (Alap.news)

Furthermore, five members were elected unopposed to the executive committee. They are:

  • Bashir Ahmed (Daily Amar Desh)
  • Pantho Rahaman (Channel I)
  • Atiqur Rahman (Dainik Jababdihi)
  • Khurram Zaman (Amader Natun Shomoy)
  • M. A. K. Zilani (Daily Shomoyer Alo)

Handover and Institutional Continuity

The AGM was presided over by the outgoing president, AKM Moinuddin, who held the position for the 2025 term. During the meeting, the outgoing general secretary Md Arifuzzaman Mamun and treasurer Morshed Hassib Hasan presented their respective reports, outlining the association's activities and financial standing over the past year. This smooth transition underscores the institutional strength of DCAB, which plays a crucial role in facilitating dialogue between the diplomatic community and the Bangladeshi media.

The newly formed committee is now tasked with representing the interests of diplomatic correspondents in Bangladesh and fostering professional standards among its members for the coming year.
