Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to undertake a two-day visit to Bikaner on May 25 and 26, amid escalating incidents of narcotics and weapons smuggling via drones across the Pakistan border in the border sectors of Bikaner and Sriganganagar. The visit is seen as a strategic move to address security challenges and enhance border management.
Preparations Underway
In light of the proposed visit, the Border Security Force (BSF), district administration, and police department have intensified their preparations. Reports indicate that the Home Minister is expected to inspect BSF border outposts and review ongoing development works in the border areas. Additionally, he is likely to hold a high-level meeting with collectors and superintendents of police from Rajasthan's five border districts, along with representatives from other security and intelligence agencies.
Significance of the Visit
The visit is being viewed as crucial given the rising cross-border smuggling activities from Pakistan, which pose significant security challenges. The Union Home Minister's engagement aims to strengthen border surveillance and counter-drone measures. Rajasthan Chief Secretary V Srinivas conducted a review meeting via video conference with officials to discuss preparations for the visit.
Security Arrangements
Bikaner Range Inspector General Omprakash and Superintendent of Police Mridul Kachhawa are actively finalizing security and logistical arrangements. Bikaner Member of Parliament Arjun Ram Meghwal confirmed the visit, stating that Shah will arrive in Bikaner on the evening of May 25 and stay overnight. On May 26, he is expected to review security arrangements at BSF border outposts and participate in a meeting of security and intelligence officials from border districts at the Bikaner headquarters. The meeting will focus on reviewing security arrangements along the India-Pakistan border, and a high-level meeting with the BSF is also anticipated.
