Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Nabin recently hosted envoys from 12 countries as part of the party's 'Know BJP' initiative. The event, held at the party headquarters in New Delhi, aimed to provide foreign diplomats with insights into the BJP's organizational structure, policies, and governance model.
Diplomatic Engagement
The initiative saw participation from ambassadors and high commissioners representing nations including the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, France, Germany, Australia, Brazil, South Africa, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Mauritius. During the interaction, Nabin elaborated on the BJP's journey from a small political outfit to India's ruling party, emphasizing its grassroots connect and ideological foundations.
Showcasing Organizational Strength
The BJP chief highlighted the party's extensive network of workers and its use of technology in political outreach. He also discussed key policy achievements under the current government, such as the abrogation of Article 370, the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), and the push for digital payments. The envoys were given a detailed presentation on the party's functioning, including its decision-making processes and cadre training programs.
This engagement is part of a broader effort by the BJP to build international understanding of India's political landscape. The 'Know BJP' initiative was launched in 2018 to familiarize foreign diplomats, journalists, and academics with the party's perspective. Similar interactions have been held with envoys from other regions in the past.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Nabin stressed that such exchanges help in dispelling misconceptions and building bridges between India and other nations. He noted that the BJP's growth story is closely linked to India's rise on the global stage. The envoys expressed appreciation for the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of the party's workings and its role in shaping India's domestic and foreign policies.
The event concluded with a Q&A session where diplomats raised queries on topics ranging from electoral processes to economic reforms. The BJP plans to continue this initiative, aiming to host more such interactions in the future.
