BRICS Nations Adopt First Joint Statement at Women Ministers' Meeting
BRICS member countries have adopted their first-ever joint statement at the women ministers' meeting, Union Minister Annapurna Devi announced on Thursday. The landmark agreement marks a significant step in fostering collaboration on gender equality and women's empowerment among the five nations.
Two Key Deliverables: Best Practices and Digital Inclusion
According to Devi, the ministers reached consensus on two crucial deliverables: sharing best practices on women's empowerment and collaborating on women's digital inclusion. These initiatives aim to leverage collective expertise to address common challenges faced by women across BRICS countries.
The meeting, held under India's chairmanship, brought together ministers from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Discussions focused on policy frameworks, economic opportunities, and technological access for women.
Impact and Future Collaboration
The joint statement outlines a roadmap for future cooperation, including regular exchanges of successful programs and joint research projects. Devi emphasized that digital inclusion is a priority, as it can bridge gaps in education, employment, and entrepreneurship for women.
"This is a historic moment for BRICS," Devi said. "By working together, we can accelerate progress towards gender equality and ensure that women benefit from the digital revolution."
The adoption of the statement is expected to strengthen the role of women in the bloc's economies and societies, setting a precedent for future ministerial meetings.
