The Congress party has welcomed the proposed peace agreement between the United States and Iran but sharply criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's approach toward Israel. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh stated that India's national interests require a more balanced West Asia policy.
Congress Calls for Balanced West Asia Policy
In a statement, Jairam Ramesh highlighted concerns over Pakistan's growing diplomatic role and the geopolitical implications of the peace process. He accused the Modi government of 'blind devotion' to Israel, arguing that it undermines India's strategic autonomy.
Geopolitical Implications
The proposed US-Iran peace pact is seen as a major shift in Middle Eastern diplomacy. Ramesh emphasised that India must recalibrate its foreign policy to safeguard its interests, especially in light of Pakistan's increasing engagement in the region.
Congress also expressed worries about the humanitarian impact of ongoing conflicts and called for a more inclusive approach that considers the rights of all stakeholders.
