DRDO Chief: India Now Self-Reliant in Defence Manufacturing

DRDO Director General Highlights India's Defence Manufacturing Revolution

India has undergone a remarkable transformation from being an "import denial nation" to achieving significant self-reliance in defence production, declared Binay Kumar Das, Director General of Electronics and Communication Systems at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Speaking at the fifth convocation ceremony of Dr Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University, Das emphasized the expanding opportunities within the domestic defence sector.

Strengthening Domestic Defence Through Import Restrictions

Das pointed out that with the implementation of more than 500 negative import lists, India is actively strengthening its indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities. These strategic restrictions are designed to reduce dependency on foreign suppliers and boost local production. He passionately urged the graduating students to contribute to national development through innovation and advancements in science, highlighting the critical role of young minds in sustaining this momentum.

Governor Calls for Responsible Citizenship Amid Global Challenges

Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot addressed the convocation, calling on students to recognize their profound responsibilities towards society and the nation. "In today's world, which is grappling with climate change, social inequality, and economic challenges, your role becomes even more crucial," Gehlot stated. He emphasized that students must evolve into responsible citizens who actively protect the environment, demonstrate sensitivity towards weaker sections of society, and contribute to inclusive and sustainable development.
