Railways Issue Final Eviction Notice for Tatanagar Model Station Project
In a decisive move to reclaim railway land, authorities in Tatanagar have issued a final notice to approximately 350 individuals, urging them to voluntarily dismantle unauthorized shops and houses. This action is part of the third phase of an eviction drive aimed at transforming Tatanagar station into a model facility under the South Eastern Railway (SER). Engineering department officials confirmed that the land fixing work will be executed within the next 10 days to expedite the station's redevelopment.
Eviction Drive to Target Key Areas with Police Support
Assistant Engineer R K Verma, overseeing the Tatanagar area, detailed that the eviction operations will focus on several critical locations, including the Khasmahal-Golpahari Temple Road, Kitadih Road, Bagbera Road, and the Gudri market stretch. The drive is scheduled to commence after April 6, pending the deployment of magistrates and police forces by the district administration. To ensure a smooth process, cooperation has been sought from the Railway Police Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and local police stations in Golmuri, Bagbera, and Pursudih. Verma noted that while a small number of illegal occupants have already removed their belongings, a significant portion remains to be evicted.
Land Fixing and Demolition Progress Underway
Concurrently, the railways have initiated land fixing activities on areas where demolition was carried out during the first two stages of the eviction drive in January and February. Work on leveling patches near the railway station and Sankata Singh petrol pump began on Saturday, marking a step forward in preparing the site for the upcoming construction. This phase is crucial for clearing obstacles and ensuring the land is ready for the ambitious model station project.
Details of the Rs 350-Crore Model Station Unveiled
Anil Mishra, General Manager of the South Eastern Railway, announced on March 23 that the model station is expected to be completed within two-and-a-half years. The project, valued at Rs 350 crore, will span 200 acres of land and feature state-of-the-art amenities. Key components include a multiplex, a centralized air-conditioned facility with seating for 2,000 people, and a VIP lounge. Additionally, the station will boast an augmented vehicle parking zone capable of accommodating 10,000 vehicles, multiple entry and exit points at the first and second gates, a community park, a railway archive point, and an enhanced surveillance system equipped with over 130 high-end CCTV cameras.
Rehabilitation Responsibilities and Broader Implications
The railways have clarified that the rehabilitation of displaced vendors falls under the purview of the state government, highlighting the collaborative effort required for this large-scale initiative. This eviction drive not only aims to enhance infrastructure but also addresses long-standing issues of unauthorized encroachments, paving the way for improved urban development and safety in the region. As the project progresses, it is set to redefine Tatanagar as a modern transportation hub, benefiting both commuters and the local economy.
