Nagpur: After months of delay, a team of technicians led by a French expert has finally arrived in Nagpur to oversee a crucial phase of the long-stalled Futala musical fountain project, raising hopes of renewed momentum for a restoration effort that has remained in limbo for nearly two years.
French specialist Basile is expected to remain in the city until June 22 and will work with MahaMetro officials and the local execution team on several technical aspects of the project. Officials said the visit is critical as it will determine the next phase of repairs and procurement.
Inspection of Cable Network
A major focus of the exercise is the inspection of nearly 65,000 metres of cables laid at the site. Basile is examining the grouping, alignment and connection points of the network to ensure seamless integration with the fountain's electrical and synchronisation systems.
"The priority is to verify whether the cables have been laid according to technical specifications and identify the exact connection points," sources associated with the project said.
LED Light Installation Underway
Simultaneously, installation of the fountain's illumination system has begun, with around 250 LED lights being fitted under the expert's supervision.
Assessment of Pump Condition
The visit is also expected to provide clarity on the condition of the fountain's pumps. During his previous inspection about seven months ago, Basile had identified several components requiring repairs. Officials said he will now assess whether the prolonged period of inactivity has caused further deterioration.
The condition of two to three newly received pumps will also be evaluated. Based on his findings, Basile is expected to submit a technical report detailing repair requirements and components that need replacement.
"The report will help determine the exact parts required, following which fresh procurement orders will be placed. Most of these specialised components will have to be sourced from France," sources said.
Officials said the ongoing assessment is expected to shape the project's next phase and could prove pivotal in bringing the long-delayed fountain closer to becoming operational.
