India has strongly rejected what it termed as 'unwarranted references' to Jammu and Kashmir in a joint statement issued by China and Pakistan. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) clarified that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and any external commentary on it is unacceptable.
China-Pak Joint Statement
The joint statement, released after a meeting between Chinese and Pakistani leaders, mentioned the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, calling for a peaceful resolution in accordance with the UN Charter. India dismissed this as an interference in its internal affairs.
India's Response
MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi stated, 'We firmly reject the unwarranted references to the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the joint statement. Such comments violate India's sovereignty and territorial integrity.'
India has consistently maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an inalienable part of the country and any discussion on the region without India's consent is invalid. The government reiterated its stance that all matters pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir are internal to India.
Diplomatic Implications
The rejection comes amid heightened tensions in the region. India has urged both China and Pakistan to refrain from making statements that could undermine peace and stability. The MEA emphasized that India remains committed to resolving all issues bilaterally with its neighbors.
Experts suggest that the joint statement reflects the growing strategic partnership between China and Pakistan, but India's strong response indicates its firm position on territorial integrity. The development is likely to impact future diplomatic engagements in the region.
