India has delivered a sharp diplomatic rebuke to Pakistan, dismissing its comments on the treatment of religious minorities within India as politically motivated "finger pointing." The strong rejection came from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on December 29, 2025.
MEA's Firm Rejection of Pakistani Allegations
The MEA's response was triggered by remarks from Pakistani foreign affairs spokesperson, Tahir Andrabi. Andrabi had called upon the international community to take action concerning alleged incidents in India, which included references to attacks on Muslims and Christmas-related vandalism. This was not an isolated comment; last month, Pakistan had also raised objections to the Ram temple flag-hosting ceremony that was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing these accusations, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal categorically rejected Pakistan's claims. He stated that such accusations were a deliberate attempt to divert attention and could not obscure the reality within Pakistan's own borders.
Highlighting Pakistan's "Abysmal Record"
In a pointed counter, the Indian ministry underscored Pakistan's "abysmal record" in protecting its own religious minorities. The MEA's statement implied that Pakistan, given its systemic issues and documented victimisation of minority groups at home, lacks the moral authority to comment on India's internal affairs.
Jaiswal emphasised that instead of engaging in baseless rhetoric, the Pakistani authorities should focus their efforts on addressing the serious human rights challenges within their own nation. The Indian position framed Pakistan's comments as a transparent political tactic rather than a genuine concern for welfare.
The Context and Diplomatic Stance
This exchange is the latest in a series of diplomatic friction points between the two neighbouring countries. India's stance remains consistent: it considers any commentary on its sovereign matters from Pakistan, particularly on subjects related to secularism and minority rights, as hypocritical and invalid.
The MEA's firm and unambiguous rejection signals that India will continue to challenge and counter what it perceives as propaganda-driven narratives from across the border.
