MP Tejasvi Surya Demands Fully Empowered Bengaluru Development Minister
Bharatiya Janata Party MP Tejasvi Surya has called for a fully empowered Bengaluru Development Minister, asserting that the ongoing turf war within the Congress government has left India's tech capital without clear accountability at a critical time. Surya made the demand during a press conference in Bengaluru on Saturday, emphasizing the need for a dedicated minister with full authority to address the city's pressing issues.
The MP highlighted that Bengaluru, as the nation's technology hub, requires focused and decisive leadership to tackle challenges such as infrastructure decay, traffic congestion, and water scarcity. He criticized the current Congress-led state government for internal conflicts that have hampered effective governance. According to Surya, the absence of a single point of accountability has led to delays in project implementation and poor coordination among departments.
Surya's remarks come amid growing concerns over Bengaluru's development trajectory. He urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to appoint a minister with complete control over the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, Bangalore Development Authority, and other civic agencies. The MP argued that a fully empowered minister could streamline decision-making and ensure faster execution of projects.
Political analysts note that Surya's demand reflects broader frustrations among Bengaluru's residents and businesses. The tech city, home to global corporations and startups, has seen a decline in livability due to inadequate urban planning. Surya warned that continued infighting could deter investment and harm the city's reputation.
The Congress government has yet to respond formally to Surya's demand. However, sources indicate that internal discussions are underway to address the governance gap. As Bengaluru faces mounting challenges, the call for a dedicated development minister with full powers is likely to resonate with citizens and industry stakeholders alike.
