All Indian Seafarers in Persian Gulf Confirmed Safe, Two LPG Vessels Headed to India

In a reassuring update from the Indian government, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, a senior official from the Shipping Ministry, has confirmed that all Indian seafarers operating in the Persian Gulf region are safe and secure. This announcement comes amid heightened regional tensions, with no untoward incidents reported involving Indian nationals over the past 24 hours.

Safe Transit of LPG Carriers Through Strait of Hormuz

Out of the 24 Indian-flagged vessels currently stationed in the region west of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, two liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers have successfully navigated the strait. The vessels, identified as the Shivalik and Nanda Devi, completed their transit late last night and are now en route to Indian shores.

These ships are carrying a substantial cargo of approximately 92,700 metric tons of LPG, which is critical for India's energy needs. The Shivalik is expected to dock at the Mundra port on March 16, while the Nanda Devi is scheduled to arrive at the Kandla port on March 17, ensuring a steady supply of this essential fuel.

Current Status of Indian Vessels and Crew in the Region

Following the departure of the two LPG carriers, a total of 22 Indian-flagged vessels remain operational in the Persian Gulf. These ships are manned by 611 Indian seafarers, all of whom are reported to be in good health and facing no immediate threats. The Shipping Ministry continues to monitor the situation closely, maintaining regular communication with vessel operators to ensure the safety and well-being of the crew.

The Persian Gulf, a key maritime route for global oil and gas shipments, has seen increased scrutiny due to geopolitical developments. India's proactive stance in safeguarding its maritime interests and personnel highlights the government's commitment to national security and economic stability.

This development is particularly significant given India's reliance on imported energy resources, with LPG being a vital component for domestic and industrial use. The safe passage of these vessels underscores the resilience of India's shipping infrastructure and the dedication of its seafaring community.
