An exquisite all-vegetarian banquet, showcasing the rich tapestry of Indian regional cuisine, marked the culmination of Russian President Vladimir Putin's two-day visit to India. President Droupadi Murmu hosted the state dinner in honour of her counterpart at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday, presenting a meticulously curated menu that moved from Kashmiri delicacies to comforting classics.

A Culinary Diplomacy: Celebrating India on a Plate

The dinner was a deliberate showcase of India's gastronomic heritage. The meal commenced with a Murungelai Chaaru, a soothing soup made from drumstick leaves, setting the stage for the flavours to follow. The initial courses featured innovative starters like Kaale Chane ke Shikampuri and Vegetable Jhol Momo with Chutney, blending traditional forms with vegetarian ingredients.

The main spread was a grand affair, designed to offer a panoramic taste of the country. Highlights included the luxurious Gucchi Doon Chetin – stuffed morels served with a piquant Kashmiri walnut chutney – and the Zafrani Paneer Roll. The menu balanced richness with homely comfort, featuring dishes like Palak Methi Mattar Ka Saag, Tandoori Bharwan Aloo, Achaari Baingan, and the ever-popular Yellow Dal Tadka.

These were accompanied by a Dry Fruit and Saffron Pulao and an assortment of Indian breads, including Lachha Paratha, Magaz Naan, Satanaj Roti, Missi Roti, and Biscuity Roti.

Accompaniments and a Sweet Finale

No Indian feast is complete without its array of sides and condiments. The banquet table featured an elaborate selection: Beetroot and Khaman Kakdi salads, Shakarkandi Papdi Chaat with Kamrak, Boondi Raita, along with gongura pickle, mango chutney, and crispy banana chips. Freshly prepared juices like orange, carrot, and ginger were served as beverages.

The meal concluded on a sweet note with a selection of traditional Indian desserts. Guests were treated to Badam ka Halwa, Kesar-Pista Kulfi, Gur Sandesh, and a platter of fresh fruits, providing a fitting end to the culinary journey.

Strengthening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership

Beyond the gastronomic spectacle, the evening held significant diplomatic weight. In a post on X, the President of India's office stated that President Murmu appreciated President Putin's support and personal commitment to the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.

Both leaders expressed confidence that the steadfast friendship between the two nations, nurtured over decades, would continue to prosper in the years ahead. The banquet, thus, served not just as a meal, but as a symbol of enduring bilateral ties, with Indian cuisine playing the role of a gracious and flavorful host.
