Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi departed Islamabad and arrived in Muscat on Saturday for meetings with Omani officials, as part of a diplomatic tour to discuss ending the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28. He is also expected to travel to Russia for further consultations.
Araghchi Calls Pakistan Visit Fruitful
In a post on X, Araghchi described his Pakistan trip as “very fruitful” and stated that he had shared Iran’s position on a “workable framework to permanently end the war.” He added, “Have yet to see if the US is truly serious about diplomacy.”
Uncertainty Over US Talks
Even before former US President Donald Trump’s announcement, the prospect of new talks had been uncertain. Iranian state television reported that Araghchi had no plans to meet with Americans, and that Islamabad would serve as a bridge to “convey” Iranian proposals.
Regional Tour Objectives
Before leaving for Islamabad on Friday, Araghchi stated he was embarking on a timely tour of Islamabad, Muscat, and Moscow. The purpose of his visits is to “closely coordinate with our partners on bilateral matters and consult on regional developments.” He emphasized, “Our neighbours are our priority.”
Pakistan's Role as Facilitator
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Dar confirmed that his country is facilitating the Iran-US talks and will continue efforts to achieve peace in the region and beyond. Following a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to review the latest developments, Dar clarified that Pakistan’s official policy statements on the Iran-US facilitation process are those issued by official sources only. He warned, “Unnamed Pakistani officials or sources, whether quoted in print or social media, do not reflect Pakistan’s official position.”
