Jaishankar Urges Poland to Reject Terror Support

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made a strong appeal to Poland on Monday. He urged the European nation to demonstrate zero tolerance for terrorism. Jaishankar specifically asked Poland not to contribute to fueling terrorist infrastructure in India's neighbourhood.

Direct Appeal During Bilateral Talks

The minister delivered his message during bilateral discussions with Poland's Deputy Prime Minister Radoslaw Sikorski. The meeting took place in New Delhi. Jaishankar reminded Sikorski about the long-standing challenges India faces with cross-border terrorism.

"You are no stranger to our region," Jaishankar told the Polish deputy prime minister. "You understand our challenges with cross-border terrorism well. Poland should show zero tolerance for terrorism. Please do not help fuel terrorist infrastructure in our neighbourhood."

Addressing Selective Targeting

Jaishankar also addressed what he called selective targeting of India. He mentioned discussing this issue previously in New York and Paris. The minister emphasized that such selective treatment remains unfair and unjustified.

"I have repeatedly underlined this point," Jaishankar stated. "The selective targeting of India is both unfair and unjustified. I must emphasize this again today."

Poland's Response and Shared Concerns

Deputy Prime Minister Sikorski responded positively to Jaishankar's concerns about terrorism. He expressed complete agreement on the need to counter transnational terrorism. Sikorski shared that Poland itself has experienced terrorist attacks recently.

"I completely agree with you about countering transnational terrorism," Sikorski said. "Poland recently suffered from arson attacks and attempted state terrorism. Someone blew up a Polish railway line under a moving train."

Agreement on Trade Issues

The Polish leader also agreed with Jaishankar about unfair selective targeting in trade. Sikorski noted that Europe understands this problem well. He expressed concern about growing global trade turbulence.

"We in Europe know something about unfair selective targeting through tariffs," Sikorski added. "We fear this is progressing toward global trade turbulence."

European Engagement and Diplomatic Presence

Sikorski welcomed India's expanding diplomatic presence across Europe. He noted that Europe hopes India will remain engaged with the region. The Polish deputy prime minister observed India's growing network of embassies throughout Europe.

"We've noticed you establishing embassies everywhere in Europe," Sikorski remarked. "This shows you are serious about relations with the European Union."

The bilateral talks highlighted shared concerns about terrorism while addressing broader geopolitical and trade issues. Both nations expressed commitment to strengthening their relationship despite differing regional challenges.
