PM Modi Uses Cricket Analogy to Strengthen India-Australia Ties
Modi Bats for India-Australia Ties with Cricket Analogy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday employed cricket analogies to advocate for deeper India-Australia relations, addressing a joint press conference with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Melbourne. He described the bilateral partnership as combining the swiftness of T20 decisions with the depth of a Test match.

Modi's Cricket Diplomacy

"Today, as we are in Melbourne, the sporting capital of the world, not talking about sports would be like winning the toss in a cricket match but never starting the game. Cricket is a diplomatic language in India-Australia relations," Modi stated. He added, "In many ways, our meetings are like a game of cricket: our agenda is as focused as a One Day International, our decisions are as swift as a T20 match, and our partnership is as enduring and deep as a Test match."

Upcoming Major Sporting Events

Modi highlighted that both nations will host major sporting events in coming years, including the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games, which will strengthen sporting cooperation and create investment opportunities in sports infrastructure.

Joint Condemnation of Terror Attacks

A joint statement from the India-Australia Annual Summit condemned recent terror attacks at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir and the Bondi Beach incident in Sydney. Both leaders urged the international community to dismantle terror networks and demanded action against UNSC 1267-sanctioned terrorists and entities.

Enhanced Security Cooperation

Modi and Albanese committed to boosting real-time intelligence sharing on regional security threats and exploring new avenues to counter radicalization, online extremism, terrorism financing, and threats to critical infrastructure and maritime domains.

Landmark Nuclear Agreement

During the summit, Modi announced a landmark agreement on atomic cooperation, adding a strategic nuclear dimension to the partnership. The visit is expected to accelerate the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the foundational framework for bilateral ties.

Modi arrived in Melbourne on Wednesday for the second leg of his three-nation visit, following a productive trip to Indonesia. (ANI)
