Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, France. The two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation and agreed on the need to restore trade ties to pre-conflict levels.
Focus on Bilateral Cooperation
In a post on X after the meeting, Modi highlighted that India and Ukraine have witnessed extensive engagement in recent times across various sectors. The discussions centered on different aspects of bilateral cooperation, with both leaders emphasizing the urgency of reviving trade to pre-war levels.
“We both agree that trade ties need to be restored to what they were in the pre-war time,” the Prime Minister stated.
India’s Stance on Peace
Modi reiterated India’s long-standing position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, asserting that New Delhi would continue to stand on the side of peace. “India will always be on the side of peace, placing the values of humanity over everything else,” he said.
The meeting comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts by several countries to seek an end to the Russia-Ukraine War and restore economic stability disrupted by the prolonged conflict.
India’s Diplomatic Balancing Act
India has maintained close engagement with both Kyiv and Moscow, while consistently advocating dialogue and diplomacy as the only path to peace. The talks at the G7 Summit underscore India’s role in promoting peaceful resolution and economic recovery in the region.
