Murmu in Angola: Vast Opportunities for Economic Ties

President Droupadi Murmu, during her landmark state visit to Angola, has emphatically stated that a world of opportunity exists for India and the Southern African nation to significantly deepen their economic partnership. Addressing the Angolan Parliament in Luanda on Monday, the President identified key sectors for future collaboration, sending a strong message of solidarity and mutual growth.

A Partnership Forged in Shared Values and Common Goals

President Murmu underscored that trade and economic cooperation form a crucial pillar of the bilateral relationship between New Delhi and Luanda. She pointed out that the two nations are bound by a shared history of anti-colonial struggles and a common commitment to democratic values. "While India is the world’s largest democracy, Angola is one of Africa’s most vibrant democracies," she remarked, praising Angola's emerging role as a key player in Africa's growth story, especially as the current chair of the 55-member African Union.

She also commended the Angolan Parliament for setting a stellar example in gender equality and inclusive governance, with women holding 39% of the parliamentary seats.

Key Sectors for Enhanced Collaboration

Outlining the path forward, the President specified several high-potential areas where the two countries can combine their strengths. The extensive opportunities for cooperation lie in digital technology, defence, agriculture, and food processing. She affirmed India's commitment to actively pursuing these possibilities to strengthen the economic bond.

Furthermore, President Murmu highlighted that the existing collaboration in the energy sector continues to be a solid foundation, steadily fortifying the economic ties between India and Angola. In a significant observation, she noted that global conflicts and uncertainties disproportionately impact nations of the Global South, making such South-South partnerships even more vital.

A Call for Joint Efforts and Shared Prosperity

Reiterating India's steadfast commitment to fostering peace and development across the African continent, President Murmu made a direct appeal to the Angolan parliamentarians. She urged them to join hands with India as partners to unlock the full, untapped potential of the India-Angola partnership. This collaborative spirit, she suggested, is essential for navigating current global challenges and building a more secure and prosperous future for their citizens.

The President's address marks a significant step in bolstering diplomatic and economic relations, setting a proactive agenda for a more robust and multifaceted engagement between the two democracies.
