President Droupadi Murmu to Preside Over Nalanda University's Second Convocation
President Droupadi Murmu is set to arrive in Bihar on Tuesday to attend the highly anticipated second convocation ceremony of Nalanda University. The event will take place at the university's campus in Rajgir, with President Murmu serving as the chief guest in her capacity as the Visitor of the University, according to an official statement released on Monday.
Historic First Visit as President
This visit marks President Murmu's first trip to Nalanda University since assuming the office of President of India. During the convocation, she will deliver the convocation address, confer degrees upon graduating students, and present gold medals to meritorious scholars, as confirmed by university officials.
Global Gathering of Graduates
With final preparations now complete, the Nalanda University campus is prepared to welcome 617 graduating students hailing from 31 different nations. The ceremony will also be attended by distinguished dignitaries and guests from around the world, highlighting the institution's international reach and academic prestige.
Alumni Share Their Nalanda Experiences
Ahead of the convocation, several alumni who are set to receive gold medals shared their reflections on their time at Nalanda University. Saurabh Kumar Sinha, an MBA graduate in Sustainable Development and Management (2022-24) currently working as a geoscientist with ONGC, expressed his gratitude.
"I am presently engaged in India's pioneering geothermal well drilling project. My educational journey at Nalanda has been absolutely instrumental in shaping my professional trajectory and career path," Sinha stated.
Snigdha, a graduate from the School of Ecology and Environment Studies (2020-22) who is now pursuing a PhD in environmental toxicology in Japan, shared her excitement.
"Receiving this honour from the President of India will represent a truly unique and remarkable achievement. It feels absolutely wonderful to be returning to my cherished alma mater for this special occasion," she remarked.
Seerat, a graduate from Kashmir who completed her studies at the School of Management Studies (2020-22) and currently works with ONGC India, emphasized her pride.
"Being associated with Nalanda University is a matter of immense personal pride and honour for me. Returning to this esteemed institution for the convocation ceremony is an exceptionally special and memorable moment in my life," Seerat concluded.
