Railways Announce Comprehensive Panic Button Installation Across Samastipur Division

In a significant move to bolster passenger security, the railways have announced plans to install panic buttons at every station under the Samastipur division of the East Central Railway. The announcement was made on Thursday, with officials emphasizing that this initiative will cover all A, B, and C category stations throughout the division.

Project Implementation and Phased Rollout

According to Samastipur divisional railway manager Jyoti Prakash Mishra, the project has been assigned to a designated agency with explicit instructions to complete the work on a priority basis. The system is specifically designed to ensure rapid response during emergencies while strengthening safety protocols for both passengers and railway staff members.

The rollout will be implemented in carefully planned phases. During the initial phase, stations located on the Saharsa–Mansi section will be equipped with panic siren buttons. Subsequent phases will extend this crucial facility to other key stations, including Sitamarhi, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Bettiah, and Bapudham Motihari.

Strategic Placement and Emergency Functionality

Highlighting the importance of this system amid rising passenger footfall and increased train services—including semi high-speed operations—DRM Mishra confirmed that panic buttons will be installed on every platform and in proximity to ticket booking counters. He further noted that the system would prove invaluable for handling medical emergencies within station premises.

Samastipur public relations officer R K Singh explained the operational mechanism: "In case of an emergency or perceived threat, passengers or railway personnel can press the button to activate a loud siren. The alert will simultaneously be transmitted to the control room and station authorities, enabling swift and coordinated action."

Dual-Purpose Safety Enhancement

PRO Singh emphasized that the panic button system would serve dual purposes—acting as both a deterrent against potential threats and a rapid-response mechanism during actual emergencies. This initiative represents a substantial advancement in enhancing passenger safety throughout the Samastipur division, addressing growing concerns about security in crowded railway environments.

The comprehensive installation of panic buttons across all station categories demonstrates the railways' commitment to proactive safety measures. As passenger numbers continue to increase and train services expand, this technological intervention is expected to provide an additional layer of protection and reassurance for travelers utilizing the Samastipur division network.
